So it has finally been unveiled – the mythical tablet device from Apple. Reviews have been mixed so far, no built in camera, no built in SD ports, as of yet no mention of multitasking, large bevel only 1GHz processor. Yet on the plus side the software seems awesome. Beautiful interfaces, new ways to interact with a computing screen, new platform for iPhone apps.

Energy Informatics and Flow Networks
November 11th, 2009
One thing I hope I hope to see in my life time are cars that drive themselves. While the final outcome may still be years away. A lot of interesting technology is being used now that will provide the information to make these dreams possible. We had a presentation today by Dr. Richard Watson a leading researcher in database technology and my professor at the University of Georgia. He has been involved in various research around Energy Informatics and Flow Networks.
Energy Informatics – Is a new field of information technology focused on analyzing, designing, and implementing information systems to increase energy efficiency. It involves the collection and analysis of energy data sets,
optimization of energy distribution networks and optimization of energy consumption systems. The basic idea is to regulate the supply and demand of energy to allow it to be more efficiently used thus eliminating wasteful energy use and reducing cost. » Read more: Energy Informatics and Flow Networks
Software as a service

Ajax and other rich interface technologies have opened up the door for online document sharing tools that provide the ability to offer software as a service. Everyone appreciates the html wysiwig editor when its available for modifying normally boring text entry fields. Think about now embedding all the functionality of microsoft word, excel or even powerpoint in your browser. This gives the ability to access documents from anywhere in the globe, true online collaboration without having to share your desktop, and unlimited storage in the cloud. This is what the world wide web was initially made to do, make it easier to share documents online.
A few contenders stand out in this space. Here are the Wikipedia definitions for these products:
The Zoho Office Suite is a Web- based online office suite containing word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, note-taking, wikis, CRM, project management, invoicing and other applications developed by ZOHO Corporation(formally AdventNet Inc.), an Indian-based company. It was launched in 2005 with a web-based word processor. Additional products, such as spreadsheets and presentations were incorporated later into Zoho. Zoho applications are free to use at the entry-level but require a fee for more extensive or professional use. » Read more: Software as a service
Infrastructure of the Internet part 2
September 3rd, 2009Watched an interesting video in class that really explains how the internet works. I thought it would add a lot of clarification to the topics I discussed in my post from last week . This animated video by Warriors of the net does a great job of explaining this in detail.
